On the early morning of March 25th, a major traffic accident happened on the Qianjiang segment of Baomao highway. An inter-city coach tipped over its side and had a rear-end collision with the lorry that came after it. Several more vehicles collided with each other as a result. By 9:00am March 26th, 16 people had died and 55 were injured with an estimated economic damage of RMB 12 million. It was confirmed that the coach had purchased the compulsory insurance for traffic accident, business insurance, third-party liability insurance, vehicle damage insurance, carrier liability insurance and passenger, driver & conductor liability insurance from China United Insurance.
Therefore, China United Insurance made quick response to the accident and attached great importance to it. Chen Jingyao, Vice President of COAMC and the chairman of the board of directors of China United Insurance, called the Chongqing CIRC director to express his condolences and the company’s determination to deliver its duty according to the insurance contracts. He made the instructions for China United Insurance’s Sichuan Branch and its Chongqing office to handle the accident properly with accountability. The Chongqing office sent professional employees to hospitals to visit the people who got injured and offered their support to the victims’ families. They collected information as soon as possible. The Sichuan Branch established a special service team to settle insurance claims. The claim settlement center and the branch office in Luzhou worked together with the Transportation Company, local government, highway police, and Chongqing CIRC. China United Insurance said that they would settle all the claims within their contract obligation as soon as possible.
In order to handle the accident properly, China United Insurance held an emergency meeting to highlight five points. First, claims settlement must be based on the clear understanding of the insurance policy purchased by victims involved so as to draw the bottom line. Second, investigation needed to be carried out to find out what caused the accident to have a clear picture of what obligation it should take and how much damage needed to be covered. Third, a “green channel” was set up for claim settlement for major traffic accidents. A pre-payment system was initiated. Fourth, the aftermath of the accident needed to be dealt with. Assistance for victims and their families can be offered within the realm of insurance liability. Fifth, capital sufficiency must be ensured. The company needed to prepare for future emergencies. Investigation teams would be deployed where they were needed the most. The settlement of claims must be quick and well-targeted.
China United Insurance will live up to its commitments and honor the contracts. The care and support will be delivered to the people who are in need. Their lives and properties are in good hands of China United Insurance.
